Multi-decadal oscillations in the hydro-climate of the Okavango River system during the past and under a changing climate

چکیده
16 The focus of this paper is to understand the multi-decadal oscillatory component of 17 variability in the Okavango River system, in southwestern Africa, and its potential 18 evolution through the 21 st century under climate change scenarios. Statistical analyses 19 and hydrological modelling are used to show that the observed multi-decadal wet and 20 dry phases in the Okavango River and Delta result from multi-decadal oscillations in 21 rainfall, which are likely to be related to processes of internal variability in the climate 22 system, rather than external natural or anthropogenic forcing. Application of a New Approach in Optimizing the Operation of the Multi-Objective Reservoir
The application of optimization tools and techniques to operate the reservoir on a Multi-objective basis under the circumstances of climate change is unavoidable. The present study utilizes the Multi-Objective Farmland Fertility Optimization (MOFFA) algorithm to derive optimum rules on the operation of the Golestan Dam in Golestan province under circumstances of climate change. The two targets ...
متن کاملThe influence of Atlantic-Eurasian teleconnection patterns on temperature regimes in South Caspian Sea coastal areas: a study of Golestan Province, North Iran
The main objective of this study was to reveal the impact of nine climate indices on temperature changes and climate oscillations in Golestan Province along the southern coast of the Caspian Sea. Climate indices data from across the Atlantic-Eurasian sector were collected from the NCEP/NCAR, the Climate Prediction Centre (CPC) and the Climatic Research Unit (CRU) over a period of 40 years (1971...

متن کاملEnvironmental hydro-refugia demonstrated by vegetation vigour in the Okavango Delta, Botswana
Climate shifts at decadal scales can have environmental consequences, and therefore, identifying areas that act as environmental refugia is valuable in understanding future climate variability. Here we illustrate how, given appropriate geohydrology, a rift basin and its catchment can buffer vegetation response to climate signals on decadal time-scales, therefore exerting strong local environmen...
متن کاملUsing the IHACRES model to investigate the impacts of changing climate on streamflow in a semi-arid basin in north-central Iran
Understanding the variations of streamflow of rivers is an important prerequisite for designing hydraulic structures as well as managing surface water resources in basins. An overview of the impact of climate change on the streamflow in the Hablehroud River, the main river of a semi-arid basin in north-central Iran, is provided. Using the LARS-WG statistical downscaling model, the outputs of Ha...
